Boston Vegetarian Food Festival

This is my favorite time of year. Do you know why? Because of the Boston Vegetarian Food Festival! It's usually around the end of October/the beginning of November. This year it's Saturday, November 1st. I've gone the past two years and they've been really fun*. There are tons of free samples, you get to meet lots of cool people and you get to bond with your fellow vegetarians.

*Last year kind of sucked, but only for personal reasons. I KNEW my boyfriend was going to break up with me, and he totally did the day after. At least he waited so I could try to enjoy the fest even though I was pretty much crying all day.

Here are the details for you!

Saturday, November 1, 2008
10 AM – 6 PM
Reggie Lewis Athletic Center
1350 Tremont Street, Boston Massachusetts
Free admission - Free food sampling
Free parking - Subway stop across the street

Speaker Schedule:

10:45 AM — Vegan Travel Tips and Q & A with Sarah Kramer
Cookbook Author (of a million books)

11:30 AM — Meat Production's Impact on Climate Change and the Environment
Danille Nierenberg

12:15 — Cooking Demo: Favorite Whole Foods to Energize You Throughout the Day
Jae Steele, RHN (author of Get it Ripe!)

1:30 PM — Understanding the Evidence for a Plant-Based Diet
T. Colin Campbell, PhD (author of The China Study. Holy crap! )

2:30 PM — Rethinking the Way We Treat Animals
Karen Dawn (author of Thanking the Monkey)

3:30 PM — The Latest in Human Nutrition 2008
Michael Greger, MD (author of Bird Flu and Carbophobia)

5 PM — Passionate about Dessert
Hannah Kaminsky (author of My Sweet Vegan; fellow ppker!)

I'm really bummed because I work until 1pm, and then would have to drive for an hour to get there. I'm going to be missing a bunch of people I REALLY want to see, like Jae Steele and T. Colin Campbell. I want to see them especially, because as a Nutrition major, I love listening to people talk about nutrition stuff. I'll DEFINITELY be there in time for Hannah, so I'm happy about that. I'll probably end up buying Get it Ripe and My Sweet Vegan because I've been wanting to get those for awhile. I'll also nerd it up and have them sign them too.

Cookbook Author (of a million mediocre books)

Wow. That was rude. :(

I wish I was going! I went once, millions of years ago.

I'm not going to debate the finer points of Sarah Kramer's cookbooks, but I will say: slagging other vegans is really lame. There are enough meat-eating haters out there.

don't you worry, i'll be around still later that afternoon, and would be happy to sign your book.

Sorry, Sarah! I've just never made anything I've loved from them. Tons of people LOVE your cookbooks though. Then again, I've only really tried a couple and it was waaayyy back in the day when I wasn't much of a cook. I still don't think I'm much of a cook. If you look through my blog you'll notice I make like 3 things over and over again.

You're right, that was rude though. I'll change it because I don't want to come off as a jerk. I have HIAV and GOV, and I think I should give them another try. I think I got them right around the time I went vegetarian, when I was still eating mostly Kraft Mac and Cheese and Elio's Pizza.

Wow, that's an awesome line up. Makes me wish I wasn't on the other side of the country!

Thanks Allicia.
I think sometimes people forget I'm a real person with real feelings. :)

You should try the Nanaimo Bars in my new cookbook. They are to die for.

I am so jealous. I think I missed the veggie fair thing in Denver this year.
I wish there was a VEGAN calendar of all the great get togethers and an email reminder a week before.. yeah thats where I am ... overwhelmed!!! But would that be great? Than we could make our way through all the states hitting the great spots.
I would even make a book like on Elizabethtown about it!! Who wants to make this for next year and send it to me?????
